Friendsies™ Safety
Our tips are practical and sensible rules to adhere to when meeting new friends on the Internet, or anywhere.
- First, USE COMMON SENSE!
- Second, realize that although the people that you are connecting with are members of the same website, they are still strangers!
Accordingly, do not give out personal information such as your last name, your home address, your phone number, or other information that will reveal how to get in touch with you in-person.
- Never post provocative pictures of yourself, and never send them in a message.
- If a member attempts to harass you in any way, including in a sexual manner, as in sending you explicit messages, delete them as a match.
If they attempt to reconnect with you, tell a trusted adult and/or friend and report them to the site administrator.
- Never meet an online friend alone. If you must meet them, do so in a very public and neutral place.
Make sure that your family and friends know that you have arranged this meeting and that they are aware of the details of the meeting.
Always carry a cell phone in case of emergencies. If you are anxious at all about the meeting, do not go forward with it, or at the very least,
have someone you know watching from a distance until you let them know that you are comfortable.
- Never travel to unfamiliar places to meet a new online friend. This is not advised until after a great amount of time has passed,
and you have gotten to know your friend very well through in-person meetings in centrally-located places.
Never put yourself in a position in which you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and too far away from your trusted friends and family.
Again, always make sure that your loved ones know where you are and what your plans are, and do not change your plans without alerting others first.
